Topeka State Hospital - Biennial Reports (1877-1958)

"Authorized 1875. [Opened in 1879 for treatment and care of the mentally ill.] From 1876 to 1901, under control of the Board of Trustees for the Control of Charitable Institutions; from 1901 to 1905, by Board of Trustees of State Charities and Corrections; from 1905 to 1917 by State Board of Control of Charitable Institutions; from 1917 to 1939 by State Board of Administration, and since 1939 under control of the State Department of Social Welfare. [Placed under Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in 1973].
Name changed in 1901 from State Insane Asylum, Topeka, to Topeka State Hospital."

The Topeka State Hospital was closed in 1997.
The 36th Biennial Report (1946-1948) was not published according to records kept by the Kansas Historical Society
