The Conservation Commission was established within the Kansas Department of Agriculture as the Division of Conservation by approval of the Governor's Executive Reorganization Order No. 40 July 1, 2011 with duties of the Commission assumed by the Division of Conservation under the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
Before July 1, 2011 the Kansas Conservation Commission worked with local conservation districts, organized watershed districts, and other state and federal entities to administer programs to improve water quality, control soil erosion, conserve water and reduce flood potential in Kansas.
